Wayne Rooney has hit out at PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe for his attitude towards Lionel Messi.
PSG star Kylian Mbappe has become one of the best players in the world, but clashes with Lionel Messi and Neymar has raised question marks over his attitude.
During PSG‘s recent victory over Montpellier, the Frenchman argued with Neymar over who would take a penalty.
This came after Mbappe had already missed one a few minutes earlier, with the Brazilian looking to remedy the situation.
He was also spotted pushing Messi after the Argentine failed to pass him the ball.
The row left Messi with a stunned look on his face, with the video going viral.
There has been growing speculation that Mbappe isn’t on the same page as the rest of his teammates, with his recent behaviour adding fuel to the fire.
Rooney not a fan of Mbappe’s antics
Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, now coach of DC United in MLS, has delivered some stinging criticism of Mbappe and his antics.
“A 23-year-old player commits to pushing Messi,” he told Depar Sports. “I have never seen a bigger ego in my life.
“Someone should remind Mbappe that when Messi was 23 he had already won four Ballon d’Ors.”
Rooney‘s words caused a storm on social media, with most users agreeing that Mbappe‘s behaviour towards Messi was disrespectful.
PSG boss Christophe Galtier defends Kylian Mbappe strop following Lionel Messi spat
The Parisiens made it two wins from two to begin their Ligue 1 title defence, while scoring ten goals in the process. But it was the player’s behavior that once again grabbed the headlines after the game.
Following his apparent disgruntlement at missing out on his team’s second penalty, the former Monaco attacker also appeared to give up on the counter-attack after he did not receive a pass.
The striker recently suffered injury problems, which manager Christophe Galtier was quick to point out after the victory over Montpellier in the French capital.
The PSG manager told Canal Plus (as quoted by GOAL):
“Kylian played his last game three weeks ago so I knew it was going to be tough on a physical level for him. He’s a competitor. He wants to be good and he wants to be good quickly, but a top footballer is not on and off like that; it takes a little time to regain 100 per cent of his athletic abilities.”
He added:
“When he’s at 100 per cent, he’ll make the difference even more. These are players who like to score, who want to score, who attack. It’s a bit normal for him to be disappointed at being a little short physically compared to his teammates.”
