Nick Cannon’s syndicated eponymous talk show has been canceled after being on air for just one season.
According to Deadline, Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury, the show’s producer-distributor reportedly shared the news with the crew on Thursday (Mar. 10) that the upcoming two episodes would be the last ones in the queue.
The outlet also noted the initial plan was for The Nick Cannon Show to go on a five-week hiatus while the entertainer was filming FOX’s The Masked Singer and VH1’s Wild ‘N Out, with an expectation that the crew would get a week’s worth of pay during the filming break. Instead, the decision transitioned into permanently shutting down production and the crew would get a severance.
It’s never easy to cancel a production with clear potential but, after a great deal of deliberation and examining various options, we have made the difficult business decision to end production on Nick Cannon,” Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein, co-presidents of Debmar-Mercury, said in a statement.
During the talk show’s brief run, a bundle of news and updates about Cannon came directly from himself. In January, he announced on air that he was expecting his eighth child with girlfriend Bre Tiesi. And last month, he explained why he released a new song about his ex-wife Mariah Carey.
