The management of Kwadaso SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, has taken disciplinary action against several students following the circulation of a $ex tape involving them online.
As a result of their involvement in the incident, three first-year students have been handed a one-year suspension.
The decision to suspend the students was reached during a meeting with the school’s disciplinary committee, where the students admitted their offence.
Clarifying the details of the incident, Williams Adinkra, the Public Relations Officer for the school, revealed this information during an interview on OTEC FM’s Nyansapo, a radio program based in Kumasi, on Tuesday, July 4th.
Adinkra emphasized that the sexual encounter captured in the video took place off-campus, contrary to initial reports suggesting it occurred on school premises.
He explained, “We met the three students immediately after the video surfaced online, and they admitted the offence. The first two individuals, who engaged in the sexual act and recorded it, said they did it while on vacation.”
Further investigation revealed that the third person involved, who allegedly released the video, had downloaded it from the girl’s phone and later demanded a sum of Gh¢5,000 from her. When the girl failed to provide the demanded amount, the video was released online and quickly spread across social media platforms.
Consequently, all three students involved have received a one-year suspension. Additionally, the student responsible for releasing the video will face further disciplinary action upon their return to the college. Adinkra stated, “While the three students are serving a one-year suspension, the one who released the video will be deboardinised upon their return.”
The incident unfolded when a male student attempted to blackmail two first-year students at Kwadaso SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Kumasi, the regional capital of Ashanti.
The sex tape was leaked after the woman in the video had given her phone to a co-worker for repair. The blackmailer copied the video from the phone and demanded a sum of GH¢5,000 from the female student, threatening to release the video if she did not comply.
Unfortunately, the woman was unable to meet the financial demand, and as a result, the video was strategically released at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23rd, 2023, causing significant embarrassment and distress to those involved.
The disciplinary measures taken by Kwadaso SDA Nursing and Midwifery Training College highlight the institution’s commitment to maintaining a conducive and respectful learning environment.
The incident serves as a reminder of the potential consequences that can arise from engaging in inappropriate activities and the importance of personal responsibility in the digital age.
