Karim Benzema is going to dominate the headlines until a decision is made over his future at Al-Ittihad. Joining the Saudi Arabian side at the beginning of June, the 36-year-old has found the net on a regular basis for his new team but is reported to be unhappy in Saudi Arabia.
It is believed that both Arsenal and Chelsea may face difficulties securing the services of Karim Benzema before January transfer window closes, primarily because of his high salary demands at Al-Ittihad.
There is currently a lot of speculation about the future of the 36-year-old player, with Manchester United being the first team rumored to be interested in signing him last weekend.
However, the ex-Real Madrid forward is believed to be on £88m a year at Al-Ittihad, and the Saudi Pro League outfit are not expected to let him leave on loan unless the majority of his salary is covered.
A deal for Benzema this month is therefore unlikely to make financial sense for either Arsenal or Chelsea, while Al-Ittihad are not believed to be willing to consider a permanent exit.
It is believed that the former Real Madrid forward is earning £88 million per year at Al-Ittihad. The Saudi Pro League team is unlikely to allow him to leave on loan unless his salary is mostly paid by another party.
Given the current circumstances, it is unlikely that Arsenal or would find it financially viable to pursue for Benzema this month. Additionally, Al-Ittihad does not appear to be open to the possibility of a permanent departure for the player.
It was anticipated that the Frenchman would extend his contract Real Madrid last year, making his decision to depart for Saudi Arabia as a free agent all the more unexpected.
Benzema scored 31 times for Los Blancos during the 2022-23 campaign, and he has managed 12 goals and five assists in 20 appearances for Al-Ittihad since his arrival.
Benzema, who is currently under contract until June 2026, is said to be eager to leave and make a comeback in European football. During his time at Real Madrid, he achieved an impressive record of 354 goals and 165 assists in 648 games, and also scored 37 goals for France in 97 international appearances.
