According to a report by innercitypress, the Ghanaian socialite Mona Faiz Montrage was sentenced today. Despite Hajia 4Reall’s lawyers asking for 3 months in prison, the judge handed down a sentence of year 1 and 1 day.
Ms Montrage has been sentenced to one year and one day in prison with the additional day granted for “good time,” according to the Judge. Hajia 4Reall’s defense team has suggested that she should be able to return to Ghana immediately after her release, without any ICE detention.
The socialite’s lawyers initially asked for a three-month sentence, highlighting her responsibilities as a single parent and the importance of her presence in her child’s life.
On the other hand, the US Attorney’s Office has pushed for the full 37-month term, citing past cases and emphasizing the importance of a strong deterrent.
Hajia4Reall faced charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering, and money laundering
Hajia4Reall was arrested for her role in a $2 romance scam. She reportedly communicated with a victim numerous times and received wire transfers totaling $89,000, claiming it was for her father’s farm. After being arrested in the United Kingdom, she was extradited to the United States to answer to these charges.
After representing Hajia 4Reall as her legal team, the Fast Law Firm took to social media to break their silence on the verdict, saying, “After a 1.5-hour sentencing, U.S. v. Mona Montrage, 22 cr 617 (JPO) comes to a close.
Our client was sentenced 12 months and 1 day, over the Government’s request for 37 to 46 months of incarceration. We are incredibly proud for the advocacy done on our Client’s behalf and the result achieved. Our Client will be issuing a statement when she is ready.
The charges she faces stem from her alleged participation in numerous romance scams and other fraudulent activities totaling more than $2 million. In 2024, she confessed to the charges and received a five-year prison sentence.
