President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo has taken a swipe at critics of his government for approaching the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout.

He said his is not like the “derailed” programme sought by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2015.

Therefore, he is assuming a responsibility to confront the difficulties facing Ghanaians and finding a solution thereof.

“Our responsibility is to confront the difficulties that are confronting our people and find an effective solution to it and that is exactly what we are going to do,” he told thousands of party faithfuls at the Accra Sports Stadium, where new national executives of the party will be elected.

“We inherited an IMF programme, a derailed IMF programme, which we inherited from the Mahama administration,” he added, noting how “we worked hard to exit the country from the programme” only for Covid-19 to knock the bouncing economy off-track.

The President, however, expressed optimism that the economy to be built from the rubbles of the current conditions will win NPP power in 2024.

“The strong economy that we are going to build is the economy that is going to provide the platform for our victory in 2024.

“It is our historic duty to maintain the NPP in office under a new candidate [and] a new leader but with the same commitment to good governance sound economic management, respect for human rights and the rule of law.”
