AK Songstress, a prominent Reggae and Dancehall singer from Ghana, has expressed her worries regarding a perceived bias in December concert bookings, specifically towards female artists.
The talented singer believes that the booking process for December concerts in Ghana is biased. She expressed her frustration, highlighting the fact that even though female musicians from Ghana have incredible talent and contribute significantly to the music industry, they frequently struggle to secure important slots in the lineup for December events.
In a recent interview with Property FM’s Amansan Krakye on December 9, 2023, the popular singer expressed her belief that female musicians in Ghana are often not given equal opportunities to perform at December events.
“The current music scene in Ghana, particularly for shows this December, is not giving equal opportunities to female artists. The reality is that the industry is dominated by males, and in any field, those who are more numerous tend to have greater influence and visibility.” She stated.
The artist expressed their efforts in promoting female artists for events, but acknowledged the challenges they face due to a male-dominated industry. They suggested that event organizers may have certain considerations when booking artists, which might limit the opportunities for female performers. Overall, it is unfortunate that most shows tend to have a majority of male artists.
